For example, Boeing consolidated and standardized its supply contracts and plans to reduce its number of suppliers from 3,100 to 2,700 (Stundza, 2000b). Bowman (1998) notes that within the last year in the logistics industry shippers are increasingly bidding at the corporate level. More of them are making decisions by committee, whittling down their international provider base to a bare minimum. For example, he notes that about 40 percent of the global accounts of APL Ltd. , a worldwide logistics provider, had some type of logistics council or centralized body for purchasing, strategizing, and decision making. 8 To set the stage for PSM change, innovative customers are conducting comprehensive, corporate-wide spend analyses 9 to better understand their primary sources of expenditures and to then target their PSM improvement initiatives (e.g. , quality, speed, or cost effectiveness) on those goods and services that represent their largest and most strategic expenditures (see Owens et al. , 1998, and Laseter, 1998). 10 Customers are also stratifying their supply base by effect on results and level of strategic risk and then matching the specific management approach and type of relationship formed with particular suppliers to (Moore, Baldwin, Camm, and Cook 2002, 6 7). The truth of the matter is that the chains grew because they introduced a method of retail distribution for which there was a definite need and which the old wholesaler-retailer system failed to supply. To what extent the old system was inherently deficient and to what extent its shortcomings could be and have been corrected must be discussed now, not for the sake of stressing the imperfections of a competitive system but in order to contrast certain features of the chain-store system. The ideal distribution system would bridge the gap between production and consumption with maximum efficiency at minimum cost. Without any question, the outstanding inherent defect of the old wholesaler-retailer system lay in the fact that, under it, the wholesale function and the retail function are performed by separate, independent factors, whereas, under the chain-store system, the two functions are, to a major extent, combined. In no sense does the chain-store system eliminate the wholesale function: it still has to be performed, but, whereas under the old system the wholesaler exercised no control over his retail outlets nor did the retailer have any control over his sources of supply, under the chain-store system both functions are performed by the same organization and the control is unified. That this basic difference between the two systems has been partly nullified by the development of voluntary chains of various kinds is true. But the fact remains that such organizations did not come prominently into the picture until the chains had established themselves on a firm basis. When the chains were making their greatest strides, the old wholesaler-retailer set-up provided their principal competition. Reduced to its simplest terms, the main result of the essential difference between the two systems lies in the fact that under the old plan it is necessary for the wholesaler to sell to the retailer before the merchandise can find its way into consumption. Under the chain-store system, this intervening selling process, with all its disadvantages, is obviated. (Lebhar 1963, 87- 88) In 1981, standards for shipping containers were adopted; these facilitated the extension of the UPC into the emerging supply chain processes then appearing in both manufacturing and retailing industries. Conflict Management in the Workplace: Causes and Effects INTRODUCTION What is conflict? Conflict is a process that involves people disagreeing. It is usually a process in which one party perceives that its interests are being opposed or negatively affected by another party. Conflict could be created due to different opinions of the interested parties, or due to the show of authority that some of the involved parties might have. It can be separated in substantive conflict and emotional conflict. Substantive conflict is a disagreement over ends or goals and the means for their accomplishment. Emotional conflict is usual coming out over feeling of anger, mistrust, fear, etc. In addition, conflict may be classified in three types: Intrapersonal conflict, interpersonal conflict and intergroup conflict. TYPES OF CONFLICT Intrapersonal Conflict Intrapersonal conflict arises within a person. It is a fight you have to give with your ego, in front of several solutions for a decision you have to take. For example, if you are a sales manager and you are in front of a deal that you have to make on time with a customer, you might have to decide, either to close it according to your companys usual policy, or based mostly on your customer needs. In this occasion you are facing an intrapersonal conflict. To be more specific, in case you proceed with the first choice you will be ok with your company, but you may disappoint your customer and this can cause problems either in your personal relationship with him, or in your sales volumes. It is a usual reason which tends employees to resign. We have all faced during our working experience colleagues and managers fighting each other. Types of groups may include different departments in a company, employees and management, or competing companies in a market. Departments may conflict over budget planning. For example marketing budget or equipment budget usually creates a big conflict between marketing or production management or the general management. Employees and management may disagree on work rules and procedures. Suppliers may conflict with each other on the quality of goods, or in the pricing policy theyre promoting in the market. For example, we will refer below a typical labor issue when a joint venture between two airline companies has taken place: Canadian Air and Air Canada pilots were facing long term personal and legal conflicts when the two airlines seniority lists were combined following the merger Seniority. This fact is a valuable and scarce resource for pilots, because it helps to determine who flies the newest and biggest planes, who receives the best flight routes, and who is paid the most. In response to the loss of seniority, former Canadian Air pilots picketed at shareholder meetings, threatened to call in sick, and had ongoing conflicts with pilots from Air Canada (Stoykewych, R. E. 2003, March 7). POTENTIAL CAUSES OF CONFLICT Organizational Structure Conflict can be created depending on the organizational Structure that a corporation follows. For example, if a company uses a matrix structure as its organizational form, it will have decisional conflict built in, because the structure specifies that each manager report to two bosses (Jaffe, D. 2000). For example, global company ABB Inc. is organized around a matrix structure based on the dimensions of country and industry. This structure can lead to confusion as the company is divided geographically into 1,200 different units and by industry into 50 different units. (Taylor, W. 1991, March-April). Employees Benefits differentiation Resources offered from corporations as extra benefits to their employees such as money, time, and equipment are often a problem. Competition among people or departments for different benefits is a frequent cause for conflict. For example, cars, mobile phones, credit cards, laptops are benefits that are offered not in all the employees, or not with the same value. For example salesmen might have different car according to their position in the company. This small issue can cause big conflicts. Differentiation in salaries of people in the same position level, but with different performance can as well create conflicts. Human beings are always jealous and feel unfair. Task Interdependence Task interdependence could be another cause of conflict. This issue is coming when your success or your achievement in your objectives is also depending on other people performance. For example, when you are a project engineer and you have to complete a building construction in timelines with the correct way and the planned resources, it might be a big success for you, but you have to be supported for example, from the electrician, the plumper, the builder, the supplier of the materials, etc. If you lose control, you will probably have big conflicts with all your above coordinators. Incompatible Goals Sometimes conflict arises when two parties think that their goals are exclusively in their responsibilities. Within an organization, incompatible goals often arise because of the different ways department managers are approaching them. Then these two managers may conflict each other, because they focus on their personal interests and not on the companys common goal. Unless this issue is not resolved with the intervention of someone who has the authority to overlap those two, they might continue conflict without coming up to a solution. Personality Differences Personality differences among personnel are something common and usual. Many times youre arguing with your colleagues, because you see things and issues in different way based on your ethics and your growing environment. Matching of the personalities and team spirit is a difficult thing, through a corporation and needs a special care from the Human Resource management department. Communication Problems In many occasions conflict arises out of problematic communication system, such as unread-forgotten emails or dealing with people who dont give feedbacks in your inquiries, or they often forget to reply. Then conflicts are a typical result, usually from the involved parties who try to drop the fault each one in the other. Consequently, many working hours are lost in finding where the mistake in the communication history was. OUTCOMES OF CONFLICT Conflict can be dysfunctional if it affects negatively an organization, leads to low performance, or in the worst case, to workplace violence. Avoidance Avoidance is a conflict style, where the involved parties or groups are pretending that everything is fine, while inside of them they feel that there is a serious problem. Avoidance can also be an occasion where some of the parties are quitted from the conflict issue, not so much interested in find the solution, since it might considered from their side as a non personal obligation, or because they unlike the other parties opinion. In low levels and not so important issues, this style can be sometimes a good solution, but usually it finally guides in bad working environment and relationships. Accommodation The accommodating style of conflict management is more cooperative than the previous one. In this style, the one party offers or accepts, what the others believe that it is correct. This type of person is usually afraid to argue with their opponents because either they believe that they will destroy their relationships with them, or they feel that they will not come up to a solution. Compromise The compromising style is always referred as the middle-level solution. In this style all the involved persons are giving a little of them in order to come up in the best solution. We can say that it is a kind of bargaining. It is a quite effective in overpass conflicts usually without negative outcomes. Competition People often show a competitive style to in order to achieve their goals or to perceive the other parties following their ideas. Competition may create bad relationships with others, if one is always trying to maximize his own outcomes at the expense of others well-being. This approach may be effective if one has strong moral objections to the alternatives or if the alternatives one is opposing, are unethical or harmful. APPROACHES TO CONFLICT RESOLUTION Change the Composition of the Team If the conflict is between colleagues then a good solution could be, separating the personalities that are creating the biggest problems. In circumstances where conflict is attributed to the widely different styles, values, and preferences of a small number of members, replacing some of these members may resolve the problem. If thats not possible because everyones skills are needed on the team and substitutes arent available, consider a physical layout solution. Research has shown that when known antagonists are seated directly across from each other, the amount of conflict increases. However, when they are seated side by side, the conflict tends to decrease. For example, two product managers might argue in which of their two products are going to spend more marketing expenses, each trying to get more resources in order to promote more his product to the market. Then instead of fighting each other, it would be better someone to turn them in focusing on a competitive product and get them responsible how to develop their products together, much more than the competition to the market. Consider Majority Rule Group conflict can be dramatically reduced by using the traditional majority rule process. But the assured thing is that, even policies would be set up, every manager, every employee has to be careful and try to take advantage of the positive effects that conflict can give. Thus, in order to achieve this, everyone has to do it with his own style, since he has to adapt his behavior depending on the working environment he is occupied. If we think again that conflict guides in violence in workplace, but can guide also to creative solutions, integrative negotiations, passion for participating in problems solving, we have to individually think and drive ourselves at the positive part of conflict results. Argument I believe professional athletes are overpaid. These athletes are making millions of dollars to have fun and play. They are getting paid to do what elementary kids do every day. Professional athletes are should be paid about sixty to ninety thousand a year. The reason I say this much is because they are at a professional level and have worked hard to get to that status. In theory, professional athletes are overpaid because the U.S. is more focused on entertainment value in today’s society, rather than important issues like employment or cancer. First, the commissioner for all the sports should lower all of the salary caps for the players. Next, all of the athletes should be placed on a merit system. Meaning if the athlete is making 12 million dollars and there performance or statistics (such as shooting percentage, rebounding, or rushing yards), decrease by 20% or more, that athlete should have a pay cut. Also, when the athlete performs and does what he or she was employed to d o, the athlete should be considered for a raise. Then, once this has been accomplished, the athlete will have worked for his paycheck and appreciate the hard work and dedication that he or she has committed. The Disciplined Order of Christ: Dealing with the Storms of Everyday Life

In 1945, led by Dr. Albert Edward Day, some laity and clergymen have met and resolved to live a life of discipline in accordance to the teachings and life of Jesus Christ (www. dochr. org). Thus, on that meeting, an organization was founded and named The Disciplined Order of Christ whose members aim to live a life of discipline in the midst of the harsh realities of the world. Basically, the Order aims to incorporate self-discipline into the life of a Christian laity or clergy man.Although living up to the teachings of Christ is not a novel idea, the Order focuses on Christian Discipline. The once a hundred-member organization became a nationwide movement and still aiming to reach more other people as well (www. dochr. org). All members of the order strive to acquire the eight virtues of the organization; namely, obedience, simplicity, humility, frugality, generosity, truthfulness, purity and charity (www. dochr. org). In addition to these virtues, there are the seven fundamental dis ciplines that members live by.These are discipline of private prayer, discipline of personal commitment, discipline of small group fellowship, discipline of active church participation, discipline of witness and service, discipline of stewardship, and discipline of ecumenical fellowship (www. dochr. org). The Order’s ideals and vision are founded on the book written by the founder, Dr. Day, entitled â€Å"Discipline and Discovery† (www. dochr. org). Most of the preaching in the organization and the tips on how to live a disciplined life are based on this book.Although the ideals are based on the book, the organization still uses the bible, particularly the New Testament, as their primary reference for spiritual maturity. Nevertheless, there is less citations from the bible than from the founder’s book which makes it somewhat a practical guide rather than a biblical guide to a rich Christian life. The organization holds annual regional retreats as well as nationa l retreats every five years (www. dochr. org).This is the only activity that is explicitly presented in the website besides different articles regarding bible study guides and the organization’s basic doctrines. Although the Order also conducts small group fellowships, there were no presentations or exhibits regarding the retreats and fellowships. Such a defect is thus quite questionable. The organization wishes to impart disciplines of small group fellowship and active church participation and yet, there are no evidences of such events on the website. It would have been better if the organization presented places and schedules of fellowships.Furthermore, the Order only seems to offer suggestions and guidelines on how to live a self-disciplined life in the local church where the member is affiliated. One interesting feature, however, is that of the organization’s â€Å"Prayer Garden†. In the Prayer Garden, individuals can post their prayer requests and praise no tes while they can also view other’s prayer requests and join in praying for the many needs of the members of the organization (www. dochr. org). Such a connection of the different members through praying for one another is theologically noteworthy and yet original in its modern approach.The basic virtues that the order tries to emulate are actually all theologically based on the New Testament. And the disciplines are essentially practical means to attain such virtues. The practical approach of the organization’s ideals although not much proven by their own testimonial experiences is a helpful way for one’s spiritual growth. Its day-by-day advices and simplicity gives it an appealing way of living the life of Christ in the modern yet draining society people are currently dwelling in.Theologically, the ideals of the Order are theoretically and biblically acceptable. The practical guide it provides that fits the modern way of living in the world is very much helpf ul and charismatic. Upon reading on the basics of the organization, one can also find that the spiritual formation that the order offers to every individual is suitable for everyone. The very fact that self-discipline and discipline in general is the center of their ministry makes the order a viable and useful new way of living a life like that of the life Christ lived. Fahrenheit Technologies is a corporation headed by five members, all of whom are shareholders and primary members of the Board of Directors. Established in 2012, these five members who have developed a bond in their college years, decided to combine their diverse set of skills and go into business together. Thus, Fahrenheit Technologies was born. We decided upon that name because our carrier product is the â€Å"Thermo-Mug† – a travel mug/tumbler that can keep your hot beverage warm for much longer than a regular tumbler thanks to its re-heating feature. We also have plans for other innovative heating appliances in the future, which is why we felt that our company name â€Å"Fahrenheit† was appropriate. Key Business Operations: We will provide our customers with products positioned as innovative, functional in purpose, distinctive in quality and design and not widely available from other retailers. We aim to produce the highest quality products to our market as efficiently as possible. The company shall operate in the Ortigas business district but can also offer transactions outside the metro. Fahrenheit Technologies will be headquartered in 778 B, Mahogany Street, Octagon Village, Barangay Dela Paz, Pasig City. Aside from our headquarters being an industrially conducive environment, it is also close to our operational area. Along with catering to other businesses from our headquarters, we also have plans to expand Fahrenheit Technologies by having small, physical stores in places such as malls and plazas in order to be able to offer our products to a wider audience. With the B2B marketing strategy, we lower the cost for both selling and marketing, which in turn, maximizes our capital. Job Descriptions: The president of the business will be Victor Ros, whose responsibilities include creating, communicating, and implementing the organization’s vision, mission, and overall direction, leading, guiding, directing, and evaluating the work of other executive leaders including directors, formulating and implementing the strategic plan that guides the direction of the business, forming, staffing, guiding, leading, and managing the organization sufficiently in order to accomplish the strategic plans of the business. He also oversees that the budgets and resources are properly allocated and ensures the complete operation of Fahrenheit Technologies in accordance with the direction established by the board. Lastly, he is the one who is held responsible for overall accountability to shareholders and the general public. Operations director will be Harold Bautista whose duties include assuring that our products meet the highest safety and quality standards. He understands the goals of the organization and develops a clear vision of exactly how operations will help achieve them. This also involves translating these goals into implications for the operation’s performance, objectives, quality, speed, dependability, flexibility and cost. He oversees the daily operations in assembly and is in charge of inspections of products and parts purchased from our suppliers, as well as keeping records of supplier performance. He also plans and directs activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for industrial processes, materials, and products. The Finance Director is Gerone Santos who is responsible for providing the flow of financial information to the president, the board and, where necessary, external parties such as investors or financial institutions. His main responsibilities include overall control of the corporation’s accounting functions, transactions and accountancy matters, including audit systems. He also is in charge of formulating financial targets and budgets, manages company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity and acquisitions, as appropriate. Also, aside from preparing annual accounts, he is also responsible for ensuring that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met regarding all the corporation’s financial affairs. Job Descriptions: Human Resource Director will be Kevin Dela Torre whose main responsibilities include ensuring the smooth and profitable operation of the company’s human resources department. He supervises and provides consultation to management on strategic staffing plans, compensation, benefits, training and development, budget, and labor relations. He is also expected to take a leadership role in developing a culture that enables employees to perform in accordance to a firm’s objectives. Furthermore, he is also in charge of the effective planning, designing, developing and evaluating human resource-related initiatives that support organizational strategic goals. In addition, he also leads performance management, talent assessment and effective labor relationships, including negotiating and administering labor agreements. Our HR director will also supervise staff and report to the president on issues regarding implementation of policies and procedures, safety of the workforce, recruiting and hiring high-performing employees, and labor, legislative and other human resources issues. The Marketing Director is Francisco Andres whose responsibilities are boosting the sales of the company’s services and products by establishing brand recognition, optimization of the corporation’s market share using research on the competition comes and making sure that Fahrenheit Technologies is one step ahead in innovation and marketing. He is also in charge with annual marketing plans and supervising these plans so that they come to fruition. In addition, he also helps promote a positive image of the corporation not only to the consumers but within the company itself, he increases or maintains positive levels of customer satisfaction by providing impeccable customer support thru customer relationship management (CRM). He is also responsible for reviewing existing plans and strategies to make sure that we remain competitive and at par, even more, with your competitors. Finally, he reports the progress of any marketing strategy or plan that is ongoing and makes sure that all these plans and strategies are in line with the Fahrenheit Technology’s goals. Upon submission of the required documents, the company shall get the receiving copy of all the forms as proof of membership until PhilHealth releases the employer and employee numbers within three months.1 day no charge 16. Register with Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-ibig) To register with the HDMF, the corporation must submit the following documents: a. Employer’s Data Form (EDF [FPF040]); b. Specimen Signature Form (SSF[FPF170]); c. Copy of SEC Certificate of Incorporation; d. Copy of Approved Articles of Incorporation and By-laws; and e. Board Resolution or Secretary’s Certificate indicating the duly designated Authorized Representative. Upon submission of the complete documents and payment of the first contribution to the fund, the Pag-IBIG will issue the HDMF number and the HDMF Certificate of Salaries & Benefits: The Chief Officers decides not to have dividend that will worth their hard work and investments since the company is on its starting stage. They decided to recover it until the company start getting to be more profitable than on its starting stage. Every Assistants’ salary is based on the Philippines’ standard and will continuously have an increase as they get promoted based on their performance. The personnel is earning the minimum wage pay in Metro Manila and will also have benefits as the law mandated. The laws on labor standards and employment relations are consolidated in the Labor Code of the Philippines. The salient points of employment conditions and employee benefits under the Philippine labor laws are as follows: Fahrenheit Technologies is giving benefits to their employees as it is mandated by the law. Philippine Health Insurance (PhilHealth) The Philippine government has its medical insurance company, the Philippine Health Insurance or the PhilHealth. Every employee is required to be contributor on this service (Republic Act 7875). Members and its dependent are given health and hospitalization aids by this organization. Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-ibig Fund) The Fahrenheit Electronics employers are also contributing to Pag-ibig Fund (Republic Act 7835) in behalf of their employees. The Home Development Mutual Fund is providing the lowest interest housing and land acquisition it its members that can be payable up to thirty (30) Salaries & Benefits: years. This gives every Filipino an opportunity to acquire their own home by directly deducted from their monthly wages and or salaries. 13th Month Pay All Filipino employees are entitled to have a year-end bonus that has the equivalent of a one (1) month salary. It is regardless on the nature of employee’s employment and it should be given every year. As it is based on the Presidential Decree No. 851, the Fahrenheit Electronics gives its 13th month pay not later than the 24th of December. Overtime Pay, Holiday Pay and Rest Day Rates Fahrenheit Electronics’ employees are rendering eight (8) hours of service per day and if it exceeds, that will be given overtime pay and will be equivalent to the employee’s regular hourly wages plus at least twenty five percent (25%) under Article 87. However, if the company ask their employee to work on their scheduled rest day, particularly Sunday, and on a non-working holiday, the company will be paying them additional compensation at least thirty percent (30%) of his regular wage under Article 93. Meal and Rest Periods The company is giving one (1) hour break for their meals, particularly on Sunday. The company also gives rest periods particularly 15 minutes in the morning and afternoon. These short periods of time is counted as hours worked and it is use for employees to have their coffee and or snack breaks. Service Incentive Leave If the company’s employee has worked for at least one (1) year, they are entitled to have five (5) days leave of absence, with pay, every year. If the employee does not avail those paid leaves, the company can made it mandatory or that leave can be converted to cash equivalents and will be given at the end of the year. A mediocre rapper couldn’t say that he’s collaborated with Dr. Dre, Elton John, and Dido, all in the same year. Then again, Marshall Mathers III, better known as Eminem isn’t your average rapper. No other artist has ever been the center of such heated and conflicting debates. He’s hailed as brilliant by some critics and deemed as indecent and disgusting by others. But the controversy isn’t as simple as that. This is an artist and a man who is as complex as he is talented. â€Å"...no labels wanted to sign me, almost gave up... until I met Dre, the only one to look past, gave me a chance, and I lit a fire up under his ass...†- â€Å"White America†, from â€Å"The Eminem Show† Eminem was born in Kansas City, Missouri. During his early years Marshall Mathers and his mother moved between Kansas and Michigan until the age of twelve when they settled in east Detroit. During these years there would be much turbulence to get through. Tragedies including the suicide of his beloved cousin Ronnie and being abandoned by his father threw his world into what could’ve been an irrevocable downward spiral. They would prove to be haunting to the tortured youth. Without stability finding friends and staying out of trouble became all but impossible. Yet the one solace he discovered was rap music. Even while dropping out of high school and working several full time, low pay jobs, he kept an unwavering focus on his music. Why Creatures Shouldnt Read Free Online Research Papers â€Å"I can hardly describe to you the effect of these books. They produced in me an infinity of new images and feelings, that sometimes raised me to ecstasy, but more frequently sunk me into the lowest dejection.† (Shelly 122). This quote is able to capture the essence of the books influence on the creature in Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein. The four books that influence the creature are Sorrows of Young Werther, Paradise Lost, Plutarch’s Lives and Victor’s lab journal. The books teach the creature about love, human society and creation but mainly how he will never be able to have those things because he is perceived as a hideous monster. That is why the quote fits so well because he was â€Å"raised to ecstasy† by the great new feelings he learned but â€Å"sunk to low dejection† because he knew he could never have what he truly desired. The first book that the creature finds in the woods is Sorrows of Young Werther. Sorrows of Young Werther teaches the creature about love and how he will never be able to have love and also about the hardship of not having that love which he holds so dear. Sorrows of Werther is about a young artist who falls in love with a girl who is to be engaged. Werther is writing letters telling us of his deep lust for the girl but figures out he cant have her after this realization he must make a choice. Werther reasons that he must either kill himself the girl or the fiancà ©e he chooses himself. After reading this book the creature begins to â€Å"[apply] much personally to [his] own feelings and condition†(123). The creature begins to relate to Werther about his lust for a love that he can not have. Just like Werther who is not able to have his love because of the engagement the creature is not able to have love because he is perceived as a hideous monster. These thoughts and beliefs prompt the creature to tell Victor Frankenstein that he is â€Å"alone and miserable† and tells Victor that he must create a companion â€Å"of the same species and have the same defects†(139). Because he knows he cant have the love he lust for he forces Victor to create love because he learned that love is a basic human need from the Sorrows of Werther. In addition to the female companion the Sorrows of Werther are able to instill some of the hatred of the creature towards Victor because he made him so hideous and miserable. The Sorrows of Werther were able to instill a sense of both bleak alienation and intense self-questioning for the Creature. The second book the creature learns from is Paradise Lost. Paradise Lost teaches the creature about the relationship between creator and creation and about being an outcast in society. Paradise Lost is a story about creation of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden and all the good things. However the story is also about Satan and all of the bad things as well. The creature begins to relate to Adam in some ways like how he recognizes that he is the creation of Victor Frankenstein just like Adam is the creation of God. The creature begins to see that the similarities stop there and that Like Adam, [he] was apparently united by no link to any other human being[he] was wretched, helpless and alone. Many times [he] considered Satan as the fitter emblem of [his] condition (124). The creature then begins to see that because he is an outcast he is more like Satan. From these newly acquired beliefs the creature becomes more and more aggravated with Victor because he was not treated with dig nity like Adam but was thrown aside and shunned like Satan. This also helps to instill the lust for a mate because God gave Adam a mate like him so why can’t Victor give the creature a mate as well. Paradise Lost teaches the creature that he is an outcasted creation much like Satan and not like Adam. The third book that influences the creature is Plutarch’s Lives. Plutarch Lives teaches the creature about human society and the vicious nature of some of histories men. Plutarchs Lives is a series of biographies of famous men and of war from the ancient Greek and Roman time period. The creature believes that from this book he has learned â€Å"high thoughts† (123). He learned of â€Å"men concerned in public affairs, governing or massacring their species† (123). These show that he had begun to learn about society and the way that humans interact. He is also thinking of how he will never be able to participate in that because he will never be accepted into society because of his looks. He also began to start and plan the â€Å"war against the species† (121). The war against the species is his war against humans just like the leaders in ancient times that massacred their species. Plutarch’s Lives thought the creature about human society and the art o f war which he later used on the humans. The final book that influenced the creature was Victor Frankenstein journal from when he created the creature. From the journal the creature learns of how he was created and how much Victor loved him until the day the creature was â€Å"born†. The journal consists of all Frankenstein’s notes from when he was making the creature. The creature after he reads how Victor feels about him he gets angry and says â€Å"Accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust? God, in pity, made man beautiful and alluring, after his own image; but my form is a filthy type of yours, more horrid even from the very resemblance†(124-125). The creature has taken what he has learned from Paradise Lost and applied it to in how God created creature beautiful and in his own image but Frankenstein made a monster he didn’t even love. This made the creature become increasingly more lonely and enraged and Victor for what he has put him th rough. The creature has become so enraged that â€Å" [he] declared everlasting war against the species, and more than all, against [Frankenstein] who had formed [him] and sent [him] forth to this insupportable misery.† The rage from the books had built up so much in the creature that he began to kill to get even with Frankenstein who had put him through all of the troubles he has gone through. From Victor’s journal the creature is able to learn about his â€Å"birth† and become enraged and his creators abandonment. In conclusion the books influence the creature in Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein in many ways. One way is that it teaches him about love, human society, creation and rejection. Another way that these books influence the creature is that they begin to instill many emotions in the creature because he is not able to have what he desires such as rage, revenge and dejection. The final way the four books that influence the creature is that it influences him to do many things, because he is unable to get the things he desires most, such as kill humans, desire another mate and wage war on the Frankenstein’s. The influence these books had on not only the creature but everyone the creature came into contact with is immeasurable but the influence these books had changed the lives of many of the characters in the book forever.
